Scholarships and Grants

There are two terrific ways of reducing, or even eliminating, the cost of your training. One, organize a workshop in your area and receive your training free. Two, volunteer your time to a healing oriented organiztion or institution in your area and receive a credit of $10 towards your tuition for every hour volunteered.

Organizing a Workshop

As a general rule, a series of workshops held over three of four consecutive days need to net $2,500 USD after expenses. Typically this would mean at least one class for Reiki I's, one for Reiki II's and one for Reiki Masters held over a weekend or long weekend. The number of students required will vary depending on your location, but the number generally runs from 10 to 25. Many students have organized such workshops successfully in both Europe and North America and received their training free.

Volunteering

The school reserves up to 10% of its enrollment for level I & II students experiencing financial hardship. When this limit is reached, a waiting list is established. To qualify for a hardship scholarship, applicants must do volunteer work for institutions and organizations in their area devoted to some aspect of healing. Examples include hospitals, nursing homes, terminal care units, etc.

As a general guideline, applicants can plan on volunteering a minimum of one hour for every $10.00 in tuition. When there is a waiting list, priority will be given to applicants volunteering more than the minimum hours.

Scholarships include the appropriate attunement(s) and full access to the school and participation in the student lists. Scholarships do not normally include certification. Scholarship students may obtain certification up to two years after completing training by paying 50% of the original tuition.

Over the years, Reiki -- Teachings from the Heart has found that Usui Sensei's observations about people not appreciating what they have not paid for to be generally true. With rare exception, previous scholarship and energy exchange students, simply did not do well. Many did no course work at all. Most never finish their training. As a result, the school has established the above requirements.

If an applicant does not have the time to volunteer, then the school must ask how the applicant expects to find the hours to do the required school work.
